WSJ Elegant Dark Mode is committed to protecting your privacy. The extension does not collect or transmit browsing activity, article content, WSJ account information, or payment information.
Extension Data
The extension runs entirely in your browser and only changes the visual appearance of The Wall Street Journal website by applying dark-themed styles. It stores the dark-mode setting, optional Pro unlock status, license key, and contrast preferences locally in Chrome storage. It also keeps a page-local copy of visual settings on wsj.com to prevent a light flash while pages load. This information is not sent to the developer.
Through the extension, we do not:
- Collect or transmit personal data.
- Use analytics or tracking.
- Store browsing history.
- Access your WSJ subscription information.
- Modify, collect, or transmit article content.
- Use cookies for tracking purposes.
Optional Pro Purchase
If you choose to purchase WSJ Dark Mode Pro, checkout is handled by Stripe on the web. Stripe collects and processes the contact and payment information needed to complete the transaction under its own privacy policy. Card details are never provided to the extension or stored by the developer.
The license service receives a Stripe Checkout Session ID, verifies the paid purchase with Stripe, and uses the checkout email address with a private salt to derive a product-specific license. The service stores the issued license by Checkout Session ID and by a one-way customer hash so the same purchase can be recovered. It does not store the raw email address in the license database. When license email is enabled, the address and license are sent to Resend solely to deliver the purchaser's transactional license email.
The purchase confirmation page keeps the Checkout Session ID in tab-scoped browser session storage so you can reload and retrieve your license. It does not save the license in website storage. The session reference is separate from the extension's locally saved license and preferences.
Permissions
Any permissions requested by the extension are strictly for enabling dark mode functionality on The Wall Street Journal website. The extension does not bypass the paywall, alter content, or modify your subscription in any way.
Third Parties
We do not sell or trade personal information. The optional purchase flow uses Stripe for payment processing, Cloudflare for the license service, and Resend for transactional license email. The public marketing and purchase pages use Google Analytics for aggregate site analytics; the post-purchase license page does not load Google Analytics.
